Benefit Held to Help Barnacle Bill's Out-of-work Workers

Tom Flanigan

Employees at Tallahassee's Barnacle Bill's Restaurant have been without a paycheck since fire swept the popular seafood house just after midnight on August first.

A musical benefit to help those workers was standing-room-only Saturday night (8/13) at the Junction on Monroe. Performers included some of the area's top talent, such as Lori Kline, Jason Taylor, Tightner, Bruce Gaybeal and Airy A.  Headlining the event was Bill Wharton, better known as the "Sauce Boss" who was a regular on Barnacle Bill's stage back in the day.

"I always had a good time playing at Barnacle Bill's," Wharton recalled before his performance at the benefit. "Let's put a little back in the community, here."

All admission proceeds and part of the bar take from the night went to the out-of-work workers. Still no definite word on when - or if - Barnacle Bill's may reopen.
