With flood warnings in effect, the city of Tallahassee is making sandbags available for citizens. Sand and bags are can be collected at the Messer Field South Softball Complex parking lot. It's located on the south side of Jackson Bluff Road between Appleyard Drive and Dupree Street. There’s a 25 bag limit per household and citizens are encouraged to bring their own shovels. City of Tallahassee spokeswoman Alison Faris says heavy rain is the biggest threat faced locally by Tropical Storm Colin.
“We do have crews on standby to take care of flooded roadways to take care of flooded roadways to make sure that drainages are clear so that the water can dissipate. We also have barricades on the side of the street right now ready to put up increase we see flooding there,” Faris says.
The city is reminding drivers to avoid areas that appear to be flooded. Utility crews are also on hand to address any power outages. Faris says often outages on caused during heavy rains by falling tree limbs. She encourages citizens to report any outages in their area and says residents can also view a map of outages on the city’s website.
