Dogs are welcome in Leon County restaurants outdoors, as long as owners register and, as long as that restaurant is in the unincorporated area of the county. The Leon County Commission has approved the new rule. And Commissioner John Dailey believes the city will follow.
“It would probably be a safe bet in the near future they’d ask the ordinance be revised to include them. I think they’ve expressed a desire to be included, I think it’s just a matter of time.," he said.
The commission received requests got requests from businesses in the Fall Chase area for the ordinance.
In 2006 state lawmakers repealed a ban on dogs in outdoor eating areas—letting local governments give permission through ordinances instead. Under the county’s ordinance, restaurants who want to participate in the program would pay an $100 licensing fee and a $50 annual renewal charge.
