City Lowering Utility Rates

Deputy City Manager Reese Goad says starting Friday, utility customers will pay less for power, thanks to lower fuel prices.

“As we look backwards, the rates that’ll be in place are actually lower than they were 10 years ago," Goad says. "So that’s really something to celebrate. It’s predicated on natural gas prices, which we’ve been able to enjoy, because we use natural gas in our electric power plants, as well as for our natural gas system.”

Mayor Andrew Gillum says with the reduction, Tallahassee will have the lowest utility rates in Florida. The City estimates $600 per year in savings for the average household, and $150 million in community savings.
