The mountain bike trail at Tallahassee's Tom Brown Park is undergoing a major makeover. Some local mountain bikers are volunteers in the project.
Even before the work began, Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association Vice President Joe Petty said the course was attracting riders from all over the place.
“I love that it’s here and it brings people into the area,” he said during a break in Saturday’s (2/13) reconstruction effort. “There’s guys who come up from Ocala and from Jacksonville just to ride this.”
For the past several months, Petty and other Association members have been helping redo the trail. That makes Eric Mason, the City of Tallahassee's Parks Management Specialist, happy.
“(They’re) helping us do some finishing work,” he said, indicating a rapidly evolving maze of jumps and ramps being carved out of the underlying red clay. “They’re shaping all the jumps and installing some erosion-control structures in there and doing just all-around great work. It’s nice to see so many folks out here on a Saturday.”
When it's finished in a month or two, Tom Brown's Mountain Bike Trail should be among the most challenging in this part of the country.
