A Golden Year for Market Days

Pattie Haney

This weekend (12/5-6) marked the golden anniversary of Market Days, which benefits the Tallahassee Museum.

The nice weather helped attract huge crowds to the North Florida Fairgrounds. The Museum's Amber O'Connell says the numbers were among the best the event has seen.

“We’re thinking we’ll see between 15,000 and 20,000 people before the end of the weekend,” she estimated.

About a hundred volunteers make it all happen, like longtime security guy Kent Hutchinson.

“This is my 41st year coming out here and it’s a great community event,” he said. “It brings people together and I see these people once a year sometimes and we’re still friends."

Sales were brisk and the three-hundred participating artists seemed happy, such as Tallahassee animal painter Pattie Haney.

“Every year it gets better and better. I’m really, really lucky,” she said as she awaited customers in her booth.

This was the 50th year for Market Days.
