Man Sentenced To 45 Years For LCSO Deputy Beating

Leon County Jail

A man convicted of attacking a Leon County deputy is now headed to prison.

Shane Maxwell will spend the next 45 years in prison after he was convicted of assaulting a Leon County Sheriff's Deputy and resisting arrest.

That deputy is the daughter of State Attorney Willie Meggs. The case was handled by the Ocala state attorney.

Deputies Neeley Knight and Kevin Tim responded to a call at a home in Northwest Tallahassee in September of 2014.

Maxwell hitKnight, numerous times in the face and head when she tried to address him, but she was able to radio for back up. He later fled in a stolen Honda civic as other deputies arrived, and tried to escape into the forest. Law enforcement agents searched for several hours before Maxwell was caught.
