Young Actors Theatre Turns 40, Alums Return To Teach New Students

The Tallahassee Young Actors Studio is enjoying a higher profile these days, largely due to many of its alumni.

Young Actors’ alumni Tony Hale recently won his second Emmy for his role in the HBO Series VEEP:

But Hale isn’t the only Young Actor alum making a career of acting. David Reiser is back in town and will hold a reading of his new work, Joni. The Broadway writer and director says it’s an opportunity to test his work on a new audience, before it hits a major stage:

“This is the first time we’re working on a new show that hasn’t been past the development stage, hasn’t had an out of town performance, hasn’t been on Broadway yet. So it’s a really great chance for the kids and me as well to try out this new material on youngsters who are as passionate about musical theatre as these kids are," he said.

Reiser is also hosting a workshop for young actors Saturday, but enrollment is limited and for 8th graders and above. Young Actors is celebrating its 40th year and appeared on WFSU’s Perspectives.
