Police Probe Spate of Attempted Abductions

The Capital City has been experiencing a rash of attempted abductions.  Those cases have prompted warnings and increased patrols from the Tallahassee Police Department.

During a Thursday news conference at Police Headquarters,  Chief Michael DeLeo said this has been going on for the past six months.

“Since February of this year, six cases have been reported to the Tallahassee Police Department, including an incident that took place yesterday," DeLeo told reporters.

That happened along Chapel Drive near the FSU campus.  A seventh case on Miccosukee Road was handled by the Sheriff’s Department on Saturday.  DeLeo said there’s no solid evidence the cases are all linked to the same suspect, but he did release a composite description of a bald, black man in his twenties.  Meanwhile, the chief has advice for those out walking and jogging.

“They should always travel in groups, stay in well-lit areas, keep your cell phone easily accessible and not to wear headphones that block out sounds of people approaching you," he said.

As scary as these cases are, there’s one bright spot so far; none of the attempted abductions have been successful.
