Second Harvest Hails 'Generous Donation' From Florida Peanut Industry

America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend is touting what the group calls a “generous donation” from the peanut industry to help feed the hungry.

The Florida Peanut Producers Association and the group Peanut Proud donated more than 10,000 jars of peanut butter to Second Harvest. The group’s spokeswoman Jessica Cary says it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Hunger doesn’t take a vacation,” said Cary. “In August, we are not quite into the holiday food drives, and we’ve got kids going back to school. So, having a high protein food item at this quantity is very helpful to us in feeding the hungry in the Big Bend area.”

Cary says peanut butter is a popular food item that they’ll distribute across the more than 130 agencies they partner with throughout the Big Bend. She adds the peanut industry groups have donated to the Second Harvest in the past.
