LeMoyne Launches 'Art Everywhere' Competition

LeMoyne

During last April’s Music Week in Tallahassee there seemed to be musicians everywhere?  Now the LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts is planning its own event to put the work of the area’s creative folks out in public spaces starting later this month.

The actual kickoff date is still in the works for the activation of a dedicated web site.  But LeMoyne Executive Director Ann Kozeliski said once that’s announced, the “Local Art Everywhere” competition will be officially underway.

“What’s going to happen is the site goes up and the artists will be able to submit three pieces of work,” she explained.  “There will be a submission fee just like they’re submitting to an art exhibit at LeMoyne.”

Then the artists’ fans will get into the act to pick the winners.

“The people then go to this web site and vote for their favorite art work.  Now it will cost them $1 a vote.  This gives everybody an open range and any artist can win.  There will be one artist per billboard and there will be five billboards.”

LeMoyne Board Member Carin Butler confirmed there will be five billboards around town, all donated by Lamar Outdoor.  Each one will feature a winning artist’s work.

“And then Lamar is donating vacant billboards around town for advertisement of the event,” Butler said.  “It would look something like, ‘Vote for your favorite artist at the web site,’ which isn’t LeMoyne.org; it’s a custom web site.”

Kozeliski said that would then connect to yet another contest idea.

“We don’t know where these billboards are going to be.  They’re going to be around the ‘Tallahassee area’.  And that’s spawning something else in a scavenger hunt that we are laying the groundwork for and the winner of that scavenger hunt will receive this prize from LeMoyne.”

And Butler said it’s all tied to the launch of the special LeMoyne web site.

“The goal is for it to be in late July and then the voting to begin in August and the billboards would be up September, October and November.”

The formal name for the entire promotion will be “Local Art Everywhere: A Very, Very Big Art Show”.
