The Tallahassee police Department is investigating a shooting death that occurred around 4 a.m. Friday.

It is the latest homicide this year, and comes as the city works to reign in gun violence.

“We have not released the identity of the victim at this point. We expect to do that sometime soon. We have to notify the next of kin, we also want to interview any witnesses because they’re the only ones who know who were out there at that time," said TPD Spokesman David Northway. "So we are going to release that as soon as possible. We don’t want to jeopardize the integrity of the investigation though.”

The shooting occurred near the intersection of Old Bainbridge Road and Fourth Avenue.  Officers received a call from a resident who heard what sounded like a single gunshot. TPD arrived and found a man dead from a gunshot wound. The shooting comes a week after the city launched “Operation Safe Neighborhoods”. The operation increases patrols in the the Frenchtown and Southside areas.
