The Jefferson County School district is celebrating the re-opening of its administrative building. The facility, closed since 2009 has been renovated.
Officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday to mark the occasion.
Jefferson County School District Superintendent Al Cooksey says the face-lift of the district’s administration building is part of his plan to boost the district’s performance. Many of Jefferson’s school building are in need of repair and the district is working to get those facilities up to date.
“We have a great opportunity go from the bottom to the top as quickly as possible," Cooksey says. Special facilities, all these things, the Department of Education has helped us—help us locally if you will.”
Next on the list is securing funding to build a new elementary school building. The current one is nearly 40 years old. The Jefferson County School district is also working to improve its standing under the state’s school accountability structure.
Cooksey says the district is making some progress but adds, there’s a long way to go.
