The suspect, 25-year-old Deondrae Hudson, was apprehended Monday for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Nickolas Doss.
Authorities say Hudson evaded them for nearly a week. Officers finally captured Hudson at an apartment complex off Melvin Street. “He was placed under arrest for first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and arson of a motor vehicle”, Tallahassee Police Department spokesman David Northway said Tuesday.
According to a witness in the case who was driving the vehicle, Hudson sat in the back seat while the victim, Doss, sat in the front passenger seat. Following the murder, the witness says Hudson dumped Doss’ body, stashed the gun and attempted to set the car on fire. The witness later went to police.
Doss’s body was found near Chapman Pond on New Year’s Eve by city workers.
The Leon County School District plans to present an honorary diploma to Doss’ family in June. Doss was a Godby High School senior and football player.
