City Reveals Gaines Street Roundabout Scuplture

The Shine on Gaines Block Party is back on!

The event highlights local art vendors and businesses on the corridor of Gaines Street. The event starts Wednesday afternoon and runs through the evening. It features live bands, art exhibits, a bounce house and fireworks. Traffic will be rerouted and Gaines Street will be closed, but City of Tallahassee Spokeswoman, Lizzy Kelley, says the detours might be familiar to residents because Gaines Street has been under construction for a while.

“So hopefully this one when people see it, they’ll have their alternate route in their mind. And it’s one night only, it’s a couple hours for a great-great cause to come out and have a fun event," Kelley says. "Maybe they’ll just want to stop and come join us.”

The event was originally canceled last week because of fatal shooting of Leon County Sheriff Deputy.  This 20 feet tall cone shaped centerpiece is built out of steel and colored glass with lights on the insides.
