The Tallahassee Community College Foundation will welcome a Vice President of Resource Development early next year. Heather Mitchell, who currently serves as president and CEO of the United Way of the Big Bend, will begin working at the College February 3, 2015. “We are thrilled to welcome Heather to the TCC family,” said Jim Murdaugh, TCC President. “She knows that TCC is not just a community college, it’s a community institution and she has an impressive history of raising funds to help transform lives.” Mitchell has led the UWBB since March 2012. In that time, she helped raise over $50 million and led the organization through a community-wide strategic planning process to better understand and address the issues facing citizens of the area. Additionally, Mitchell oversaw the evolution of the Shelter, the UWBB’s emergency homeless center, to become a solution-oriented haven for its clients. Before serving as president and CEO, Mitchell joined the UWBB as the vice president in charge of resource development. She worked in this capacity from 2006 to 2012, during which time she helped raise $35 million for the organization and brought performers such as Jimmy Buffett and Kevin Hart to Tallahassee for fundraising efforts. She has also held executive director positions with the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, the Education Foundation of Indian River County and the Tallahassee Ballet and has volunteered with groups ranging from Leadership Tallahassee to the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce. Mitchell received her Bachelor of Science degree in communication from Florida State University in 1993.
