Police continue to investigate after a man was found dead in the Tallahassee Village Commons shopping center parking lot Tuesday. Police have identified him as 27-year-old John A. Casey Martinez.
A Fresh Market employee noticed Martinez slumped over in a car earlier on Tuesday. Hours later, the employee called TPD when it was apparent Martinez had not moved. Investigators say there are no "overt" signs of foul play, but they have not commented on the cause of death.
TPD spokesman Dave Northway says Martinez’s death is classified as “suspicious” for investigative purposes.
“So first we’re going to treat it like a homicide and then when we realize it’s not a homicide then we’re going to scale back and look at it," Northway says. "Was it natural? Was it an accident? Was it whatever it could be that caused that death? So we start out and assume the worst, and hopefully move towards the best."
