Leon County Football Program Certified In Safety By USA Football

Leon County’s football program has been certified as a Heads Up football program.  The safety program includes concussion education for players.

USA Football created the Heads Up Program in 2012 to reduce injuries on the field by educating coaches and players. With Pop Warner’s nationwide adoption of the program, approximately 40 percent of the youth football programs in the U.S. are now operating under these safety standards.

Big Bend Pop Warner has newly designated Leon County football programs in these standards which focus on six key areas: Coaching education, equipment fitting, concussion education, heat emergency and hydration, Heads Up tackling, and a player safety coach.

In addition to the new requirements, Big Bend Pop Warner is also partnering with Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic or TOC, the region’s concussion treatment center.

To explain more about the new safety guidelines, Big Bend Pop Warner, along with Leon County Parks and Recreation will be hosting two info-sessions.

On July 25th the topic will be Sports Concussion Education and Awareness and Baseline Testing.  On July 26th the topic will be Parents on the Field.

For more information on registering for these info-sessions and the new Heads Up safety protocol you can visit www.bigbendpopwarner.org
