Former Republican governor and current Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Charlie Crist is scheduled to sign copies of his new book at a Tallahassee bookstore this evening. Crist’s event has prompted Florida Republican Party Chairman Lenny Curry to make an appearance of his own.

The Books-A-Million on Thomasville Road is hosting tonight’s stop on Crist’s statewide book tour. Starting at 7 p.m., he’ll be signing copies of his book “The Party’s Over: How The Extreme Right Hijacked the GOP and I Became a Democrat.” But according to a Republican Party news release, Chairman Curry plans to visit the bookstore 45 minutes earlier than Crist to give his party’s response to Crist’s book.

It wouldn't be the first time the parties have tried to one-up each other’s events. Last month, National Democratic Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz made a similar appearance in response to New Jersey’s Republican Gov. Chris Christie’s arrival in Florida for a weekend of fundraising for Gov. Rick Scott.
