The Leon County Commission is considering cutting funding to the Bond Community Health Center unless the agency answers questions about its finances. But center officials say they don’t know what county officials want.
Bond provides healthcare to thousands of low-income Leon County residents, and County Commission Chairman Nick Maddox says the vote to temporarily suspend $800,000 in local funding is a warning:
“We want to make sure they have a good plan moving forward and that the public dollars that are invested are secure," he said. "We’re sure when they come back with their reply to the questions we have, they’ll give us security in that way, and I expect we’ll be able to work with them on funding.”
Bond board chairman Antonio Jefferson says the group hasn’t received any requests for information from the county. The board’s next meeting is set for Wednesday but it’s closed to the public.
