WFSU-FM’s Reporter’s Notebook: What to expect on the air today

The first named storm of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane season is barreling towards the Big Bend. Tropical storm Andrea is expected to make landfall this afternoon with winds reaching 60 miles per hour. Jessica Palombo is monitoring the storm’s progress and keeping tabs on the preparations citizens and local officials are making before it makes landfall.

And the storm over the privatization of Florida’s prison healthcare system continues as a Florida appeals court ruled in favor of the state’s privatization effort. Wednesday’s unanimous decision by the 1st District Court of Appeal disagreed with a lower court ruling that blocked the state from moving forward with privatizing the state’s prison health care services in the north and central regions of the state. Sascha Cordner will break down what it means for prisoners and state health care workers alike.
