Tallahassee Firefighters Launch 'Fill The Boot' Drive

The Tallahassee Fire Department is kicking off its “Fill the Boot” drive to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association this Wednesday.  Firefighters will be collecting donations at various intersections throughout Tallahassee.  MDA Spokeswoman Crystal Ralys said firefighters will be out mainly around breakfast, lunch and just after work.

This year’s “Fill the Boot” drive will run until Friday, and marks the 58th year that the International Association of Firefighters has partnered with the MDA

Locally, the Tallahassee Fire Department raised over $21,000 last year, and the most they’ve raised is $36,000," Ralys said.

Tallahassee Fire Department officials are hoping this year’s drive will raise as much as $30,000 to support families affected by neuro-muscular diseases in the area.

Nick Evans came to Tallahassee to pursue a masters in communications at Florida State University. He graduated in 2014, but not before picking up an internship at WFSU. While he worked on his degree Nick moved from intern, to part-timer, to full-time reporter. Before moving to Tallahassee, Nick lived in and around the San Francisco Bay Area for 15 years. He listens to far too many podcasts and is a die-hard 49ers football fan. When Nick’s not at work he likes to cook, play music and read.
