What Does Tallahassee Aspire To Be? Local Group Wants To Find Out
The same consultants who helped shape the Texas capital of Austin are about to get their hands on Florida’s capital city. A nonprofit group is bringing in the firm to try and answer the question: ‘Who are we, Tallahassee?’
The group, Imagine Tallahassee, believes the city first needs to ask, “Who are we?” before it can grow. Without answering that question, Kim Rivers with the group says, it would be like everyone on their own little boat sailing in all different directions – making progress, but not with a greater goal in mind.
“What this effort is, is to say ‘ok, appoint kind of a first mate and leave your boat for just one minute and get on this big ship and lets all huddle up and figure out kind of where we’re really trying to go and how we can get there in the most effective manner.” Says Rivers.
And to build that big ship, the group is paying the consulting firm, Wallace, Roberts, and Todd, 200,000 dollars in privately donated money. They’ll be collecting ideas from Tallahassians over the next nine months. Rivers says that’s the only goal for now, but she hopes the city will be able put those ideas into practice.
