Saving energy can be as easy as turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or as hardcore as fitting your entire roof with solar panels.  Two Florida agencies are working together to make those choices just a little bit easier on both the planet and the wallet.

The Florida Public Service Commission and the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is teaming up to show Floridians how to save money by taking simple steps like purchasing appliances with the “Energy Star” rating.  PSC Chairman Ronald Brisé says, doing so can save consumers anywhere from 10% to 20% on their energy bill.  He says saving money and the environment go hand in hand.

“Our recourses, although we may feel that they are unlimited, they are limited, and we have to make conscious choices with that, and hopefully people will…in making those choices, the benefit is, that they’ll save some money as well,” Brisé said.

An “Energy Star” rating means appliances, like refrigerators, dryers, or dishwashers, not only meet, but exceed energy efficient standards.  And City of Tallahassee Utility users currently qualify for a double rebate if they purchase an “Energy Star” rated appliances.
