The awards were given to Tallahassee leaders for contributions to community service, education, employment development, literature or spiritual guidance. Doby Flowers, civil rights activist, award recipient and keynote speaker said the path to progress is never over.

“I would like to leave with you that we all, and especially the young people, you got to believe in something, you’ve got to stand for something, and then you’ve got to do something. And I say to the young and still in the struggle: I’m old, I’m tired, but I ain’t dead. Power to the people!” Flowers exclaimed.

Lawmaker Alan Williams, Commissioner Nick Maddox, and other county and city officials, were also on hand to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy. Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, and her attorney Benjamin Crump also spoke at the event.
