TMH Cancer Center Partners With UF&Shands, Brings Doctors To Tallahassee

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare

Cancer patients in the Big Bend area can now get several treatments in Tallahassee that used to require a trip down to Gainesville. On Monday, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare announced it’s partnering with UF&Shands research hospital to bring in doctors.

The new collaboration will bring doctors from Shands to Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center on an as-needed basis. They include pediatric, stomach and uterine cancer specialists. TMH CEO Mark O’Bryant says, the program will make the treatment process smoother for many patients.

“UF&Shands has a tremendous reputation as being a strong academic center, strong research center. It allows us to marry their strengths with our strong clinical platform," he said. "We’ve been working on developing this for a while. And by bringing the two together, it kind of brings the best of both worlds to our Tallahassee region.”

TMH will also get access to clinical trials being performed at Shands. And the cancer center will work on developing a collaborative-doctor model to improve the quality of treatment.
