The Leon County Supervisor of Elections and a full staff of poll workers were on hand to greet hundreds of early voters on Monday. Early voting turnout is already breaking records.
More than 55-hundred people turned out for the first day of early voting on Saturday. That’s up from the previous record of 53-hundred on the last day of early voting in 2008. Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho said early voting is one of Florida’s most important voting tools.
“Well, the early voting is a critical part of Florida’s voting apparatus. Most people think that early voting is some method of increased turnout. But, that’s actually not true. The state of Florida does not have enough electoral infrastructures, i.e. voting precincts on Election Day, to accommodate the 8 plus million voters that we expect,” Sancho said.
Sancho added that with the exception of a small equipment error, early voting has gone smoothly. He expects voters to continue to outpace 2008’s turnout through the end of early voting this Saturday at 7pm.
