Local music acts are competing to win face time with recording industry insiders. The Leon County Council on Culture & Arts is accepting entries in its first-ever Americana Music Fest Contest, open only to Tallahassee-area musicians. Holly Thompson, one of the contest organizers, says the entries received so far reflect the area’s rich Americana music tradition.
"I guess there are roots in roots music here in Tallahassee and certainly Apalachicola," she says, "So, it’s a genre that certainly is no stranger to this community.”
The winning band will get a trip to the Americana Music Festival and Conference in Nashville in September. There, they’ll get a chance to meet with managers, labels, radio stations and promoters. The cultural council is accepting entries until July 12. There is no fee to enter. For more information on the contest and to enter, visit the official rules and entry form here.
