Tallahassee to Help Pay for First 'Saturday in the Park' Event

On Wednesday, the Tallahassee City Commission unanimously agreed to sponsor the Saturday in the Park concert scheduled for this weekend downtown. Commissioners approved just under $1,200 to cover law enforcement and general park use. One of the festival organizers, Jean Bates of the Midtown Merchants Association, says she hopes this is just the beginning of the city’s involvement in the concert series, which has two more events scheduled this summer.

“Looking to the future, to have trolleys to be able to bring people to this or maybe take them to Midtown and go out afterwards, or just kind of keep people moving," Bates said.

The Commission told Bates to bring her request for trolleys to the next meeting of the Community Redevelopment Agency. The city will also ask the agency to reimburse it the $1,200 for this weekend's event.

Saturday in the Park will be on Adams Street at Park Avenue downtown. It is scheduled to be every third Saturday during the summer.
