Tallahassee, FL – Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell was doing some street level crime fighting Wednesday. Tom Flanigan reports, the sheriff wound up detaining a theft suspect until Tallahassee Police could get to the scene.
Campbell was doing some after work shopping at the Ocala Road Publix. The store's loss prevention officer told the sheriff he'd spotted a man stealing food items. Campbell followed the suspect out of the store and held him at the corner of West Pensacola and Ocala until Tallahassee Police arrived to arrest and charge the suspect. Later, both Campbell and Police Chief Dennis Jones released statements saying this was a great example of inter-agency cooperation, a big change from a generation ago when there was fierce competition and occasional hostility between the two law enforcement agencies.
