Tallahassee, FL – Though Halloween falls on a Monday, many Florida residents may spend most of their time trick-or-treating over the weekend. As Sascha Cordner reports, law enforcement officers say though Halloween is a time to have fun, it's also a time for parents to make sure their children are safe.

With Halloween creeping around the corner, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Spokesman Keith Kameg says it's important that parents make their children's safety their number one priority:

"If you see something suspicious, contact local law enforcement. Groups are a good thing, but go over a plan with your child. If something should happen, make certain that they should have identification with them, so if they did get separated from the group, that they know where they're going, that they know their address. Make certain that a parent is with them, that their clothes are reflective, so if there is a car or there's different lights."

Kameg says law enforcement officers do not encourage parents to drop their children off at so-called good neighborhoods. He says instead, parents should always be with their kids and always be aware of their surroundings.
