Tallahassee, FL – The Florida Department of Education has named it's 2012 Teacher of the year. Lynn Hatter reports Broward County Music Teacher and Florida A & M Alumni Alvin Davis has been selected by the Department of Education and Macy's to represent the state in the national Teacher of the Year award program.
Davis teaches at Miramar High School where he is the band director, and got his training from Florida A & M University, where he was a member of the Marching 100.
As Teacher of the Year, Davis will serve as an ambassador, visiting schools throughout the state. He also receives a 10-thousand dollar cash prize from Macy's and a trip to New York City for the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Fellow FAMU alumna Lora McCalister-Cruel who teaches in Bay County was one of four other finalists.
