Tallahassee, FL – The results of the latest and newest FCAT test are in and many school districts saw lower-than normal test scores. Leon County isn't one of them. Lynn Hatter reports the school district is showing scores higher than the state average.

This year brought in a newer and harder FCAT test, and as a result, the state as a whole barely saw an increase in learning gains and, in some grade levels, even saw scores drop. But in Leon County, results in the math and science FCAT across elementary and high schools boasted big gains. Godby High School Principal Jean Ferguson says a lot of work went into preparing teachers for the harder test.

"My teachers met at least twice a month, sometimes more often and sometimes for 2-3 hours, looking at the new benchmarks, looking at the new tests, any item specs they could get their hands on, but it was a huge commitment."

Despite the positive results on the FCAT Ferguson says she's looking forward to next year, when the FCAT math and science tests are replaced by end-course exams in high school.
