Tallahassee, FL – Formal charges of judicial misconduct have been filed against 1st District Court of Appeal Judge Paul Hawkes. Critics say this is proof that he should step down immediately. Trimmel Gomes reports the judge is at the center of the controversy surrounding the construction of a new 49-million dollar Tallahassee courthouse critics call a "Taj Mahal".
"It is clear, that he abused his office, that we was a bully, that he was disobedient."
Republican State Senator Mike Fasano has long been a critic of 1st District Court of Appeal Judge Paul Hawkes after hearing that he was likely the chief architect behind the grandiose new courthouse, complete with miles long of African mahogany and marble countertops. The Judicial Qualifications Commission charges Hawks with six violations of judicial canons, including having the project director dismissed for questioning costs.
"The greatest concern I have is where he ordered to have documents destroyed, just that alone, he should be removed immediately or as soon as possible."
Hawkes has 20 days to file a formal response to the probable cause charges. He wasn't available for comment.
