Tallahassee, FL – Florida A & M University hosted an evening with Dr. Maya Angelou Wednesday. As Lynn Hatter reports, over 2500-people showed up to hear her speak.
"When it looks like the sun, ain't gone shine anymore, God put a rainbow, in the clouds "
Angelou performed several poem's both her own and those of poet's like Paul Lawrence Dunbar and James Weldon Johnson. Angelou says beyond faith, one element in people's lives that helps them through hard times is humor.
"I know I don't trust people who don't laugh. Never. Who act like, "I'm serious." And act like someone put airplane glue to the back of their hands and stuck them to their forehead. I think if I don't know your serious, then your boring as hell. Cause if you're really serious, then you came here to make a difference."
Angelou says making a difference means having the courage to take action. Next month the poet and author will be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
