Tallahassee, FL – Across Florida students are heading back to school, heads of the major state agencies are asking parents to add health insurance to their school supply list. Lynn Hatter reports the group rallied at the capital Monday to spread the word.
The agencies are pushing Florida KidCare, the state's insurance program for children in low-income families. Secretary George Sheldon with the Department of Children and Families says it's important to make sure those children have access to the services they need.
"Sadly in our nation, one out of every five uninsured Americans is a child. Through no fault of their own, these youngest and most vulnerable members of our society lack coverage in healthcare. But every Floridian should know that affordable healthcare is available for uninsured children through the Florida KidCare program."
KidCare covers children through age eighteen. Most families pay nothing, while others can see premiums as low as fifteen to twenty dollars a month.
