Tallahassee, FL – The new school year is less than a month away in Leon County. Tom Flanigan reports the county health department is urging parents to make sure their children's immunizations are up-to-date.

There was a steady stream of parents and kids Wednesday at the health department's Richardson-Lewis Center on Orange Avenue.

One of the parents, "Judah," had her two children in tow: Tila, who's going into seventh grade at Fort Braden, and Destiny, who's headed to kindergarten.

"She was going to get three and they were able to combine a couple of them into one shot, so that was a relief. So she got two instead of three."

Health department head nurse Ann Waltz says lack of money is no barrier to children having the required shots.

"Those shots that are needed for school are always free through the health department and baby shots are always free through the health department as well."

Another free back-to-school immunization clinic is set for Thursday from 8:30 until 4:30 at the Roberts and Stevens Clinic on Old Bainbridge Road.
