Tallahassee, FL – Artists from around the Capitol City will donate their hand-crafted masterpieces at a Saturday night benefit for the conservation of Florida's wildlife. Margie Menzel reports.
"Art for Animals" is the name of the event at Chez Pierre Restaurant Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. While many artists are participating, it's spearheaded by Pattie Maney, known for her portraits of dogs, cats, birds, horses and other critters. Maney says she needed to respond to the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
"And I sometimes don't know what to do," she said. "So if I can put on a benefit, or if I can sell some of my artwork and send the money to the non-profits that are doing the hard work, then at least I feel I'm contributing something and hopefully helping to let other people know about what's going on and how they may be able to help."
100 percent of all sales at Art for Animals will be divided among the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab, the Florida Wild Mammal Association and the Wildlife Foundation of Florida. All are registered 501(c) 3 non-profits.
