The DeSantis administration is requiring state universities to provide information from the past five years about services they have provided to people with gender dysphoria.

Florida’s top education officials on Wednesday approved a rule to carry out a new state law requiring school-library employees to complete training sessions as part of an effort to increase scrutiny of library books and instructional materials.

After an appeals court upheld a school-board policy that prevented a transgender male student from using boys’ bathrooms, a federal judge has reopened a legal battle about a 2021 Florida law that bars transgender female students from playing on women’s and girls’ sports teams.

Ten districts whose support guides and other policies were called into question by the state Board of Education are in various stages of revising the documents, or in some cases have dropped the disputed guides.

The State Board of Education will meet Wednesday to examine LGBTQ support guides and bathroom policies for transgender students in 10 school districts to make sure they comply with state law.

The legal battle over a Florida law that restricts classroom instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation is pitting red states against blue states.

The board originally listed an incorrect email address where people can submit comments. The public now has until Dec. 28 to share feedback about the proposal, which would restrict access to gender-affirming care for trans youth.

The rules approved Friday would prohibit doctors from prescribing puberty-blocking, hormone and hormone “antagonist” treatments for patients under age 18. The rules would not apply to children already receiving such treatments.

Students, parents, and teachers have filed a revised lawsuit seeking to block a new Florida law that restricts classroom instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Some public speakers characterized it as a way to provide transparency, and others said it is potentially harmful to LGBTQ students.
