More than half of Gen Z reports getting anxiety over checking their credit score. That’s according to a survey from USAA.

Of those anxious, nearly 60% said that anxiety stops them from checking their score. Almost half of the Gen Zers surveyed said they don’t know what goes into a credit score.

Joshua Andrews, advice director at USAA, advises those experiencing anxiety to seek out education about their finances to help ease those worries.

“Instead of focusing on the credit score, focus on the behaviors that improve your credit score,” he said. “There's a lot of tools, a lot of resources and a lot of support, and if they just get that support and they see their credit score improve, then they're going to be encouraged, and they're going to see that anxiety start to fade.”

He recommends they review their score, develop a budget, and work on managing their debt and credit.

“Use credit wisely. Don't put anything on a credit card if you don't have the ability to pay it off,” he said.
