U.S. District Judge Set To Decide Whether To Extend Voter Registration In Florida

U.S. District Court Judge Mark Walker is expected to make a ruling today on whether Florida will have to add more time for people to register to vote. This comes after the website crashed during some of the final hours on the last day to register.

In an attempt to make good on the effort, the state reopened the registration period Tuesday, but Walker heard from plaintiffs that don’t believe the time given was enough.

“Mr. Naifeh's argument is that it’s not that you couldn’t take corrective action it’s not that that wasn’t appropriate. And it’s not that it’s that you didn’t go far enough and so the burden on the voter was not corrected the way it should be corrected," said Walker.

The plaintiffs want the deadline to be extended by two extra days. Once the ruling is out, an attorney representing the state has hinted that they will appeal if needed.
