Andrew Gillum Returns

Andrew Gillum

Former Tallahassee Mayor and 2018 gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, made a return to the public eye with an Instagram post Monday afternoon. Gillum faced controversy after he was found in March in a hotel room where another man nearly overdosed.

“I know it’s been a while since we’ve had the opportunity to connect. But as many of you know, I decided to take some time away to work on myself," Gillum said.

That’s Andrew Gillum starting a nearly 12-minute-long Instagram video. He talks about his father’s battle with alcoholism and how he began to follow a similar path.

“I knew that if I didn’t want to recycle many of those same issues for my children that I had to do something about it and I had to do it now," Gillum said. "With a lot of encouragement from family and the people who love and care about me, I also got into therapy.”

Gillum says therapy helped him overcome the feelings of shame he felt after losing the governor’s race back in 2018.

"I didn’t want to talk emotionally or really deeply about what had happened in the race for governor, because it was a constant reminder of failure and my own personal failures," Gillum said.

Gillum then goes on to hint at a future book release before finally giving thanks to his wife, R.J. Gillum.
