Regulate Florida says it won’t make a February 1 signature deadline for a marijuana legalization amendment on the state’s November 2020 ballot.

The group was attempting to have a constitutional amendment put on the 2020 ballot that would’ve asked citizens if marijuana should be regulated like alcohol, making it legal for recreational use. But less than 3 months away from the deadline to have 766,200 signatures they haven’t gotten 100,000.

In the message they state, “the sad reality is that we are not going to be able to meet the deadline.”

They added that they aren’t giving up on the push for recreational pot and will be turning their attention to the upcoming legislative session which begins January 14.

Another measure that would legalize recreational pot only has a little more than 159 thousand signatures as of Monday morning.
