More Floridians are taking advantage of renewable energy than ever before. According to reports filed with the Public Service Commission, customer-owned renewable systems increased by 54% in 2018. The total renewable system interconnections total close to 38,000, in 2008 there were only 577.
Every investor-owned utility is required to offer interconnection agreements so homeowners and businesses interested in generating their own energy. The results have led to more than 317 thousand kilowatts of power being generated by consumer owned renewable systems. In comparison, the average U.S. home uses an average of 10,766 kilowatts a year.
