Mexico Beach is far from recovered after Hurricane Michael walloped the shore last fall. Now lawmakers are hoping to help speed that recovery along.
Rep. Jay Trumbull (R-Panama City) says a big part of the recovery is beach restoration. He’s asking the state to foot the bill to the tune of $25-million.
“To essentially reestablish a beach this is a $25-million request to put a significant amount of sand back on the beaches to give some life back to what that town sorely lost post storm,” Trumbull said.
The project is expected to not only replace sand lost at the shore line, but also rebuild dunes that could help protect the area during future storms.
