Senator Jeff Brandes believes the Florida Legislature is now organized in a way that will lead to more insurance issues being heard and ultimately solved. The Office of Insurance Regulation held it’s 2019 summit this week.
Senator Jeff Brandes says the time is now for insurance reform in Florida.
"This is the time to go meet with your local legislators back home, have conversations with them, tell them what’s important to you." Brandes continued, "Talk about the disruption of A.O.B. to your business, talk about one-way attorney’s fees. If you’re in the auto business bring us the new ideas for what B.I. needs to look like.”
The St. Petersburg Republican spoke during the Office of Insurance Regulation Summit Tuesday. Brandes says the Senate is composed in a way he thinks will allow insurance issues to pass through, “you just have a different perspective this year and you have committees that have been placed in such a way as to actually move this legislation. Whereas last year they were specifically designed to stop any new ideas.”
Brandes says if more insurance friendly bills reach the floor they should have a smooth path forward. He says the House passed bills last year to address A.O.B., called assignment of benefits and Bodily Injury or B.I. coverage.
