Florida’s pool and spa related deaths rose from 2016 to 2017.
80 percent of those deaths are children under the age of five. CFO Jimmy Patronis is working to push the message that better supervision is needed.
“Our own Florida Department of Health points out that in the time it takes to put a load of laundry in the washing machine, a child can drown,” he said. “So never really leaving a child swimming unattended and make sure you’re keeping an eye on the pool at all times so these horrific, life changing accidents can be easily avoided by just observing some extra precautionary measures.”
Patronis says it’s important to talk about pool safety—especially since tourists vising the state might not know proper safety procedures.
