The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced new recreational fishing dates for the greater amberjack due to reports of overfishing.
The Commission has announced that the greater amberjack recreational season will begin May 1st, and remain open till May 31st.
In recent years, federal quotas for amberjacks have been met or exceeded, which has led to early cut off dates. The FWC’s new season structure allows for recreational fishing in the spring and fall, but minimizes harvesting during spawning season.
The next amberjack season will take place during August 1st and October 31st.
