Bob Rackleff Files for Congressional Bid

Tom Flanigan

Former Leon County Commissioner Bob Rackleff paid his more-than-$14,000 filing fee to officially enter the race for congress this (Monday, April 16) morning.

Rackleff, a Democrat, admitted he might benefit from an anti-Donald Trump voter surge, but insisted his real target is incumbent Republican Congressman Neal Dunn.

“(Dunn) voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act that would have deprived 63,000 people in this district alone of their health care. He’s getting ready with his buddies in Congress to cut back on Medicare and Social Security and other elements of our safety net that help working families through hard times. We need that safety net,” Rackleff asserted after filing his paperwork at the Secretary of State’s Division of Elections office in Tallahassee’s R.A. Gray Building.

Florida’s Second Congressional District is one of the largest in the nation, spanning all or parts of 19 counties from just outside Ocala to Panama City. There are so far three other Democrats vying to compete in the August primary election, with the winner going up against the Republican incumbent in November.
