The newly-rekindled Veterans and Military Families Caucus is endorsing a series of bills to further help veterans and their families in the state of Florida.
House and Senate representatives want to increase assistance for Florida military members. Rep. Matt Willhite (D-Royal Palm Beach) says they want to continue to make sure all of the veterans are taken care of.
“Our veterans are so important," Willhite says, "but the support group they have back at home while they’re out serving is why we also need to do this so much. Those families that are left behind are not just left behind to wonder where their loved one is and worry about them and their safety, but to take care of the house and the kids.”
One of the bills would help veterans qualify for several licenses, giving many an opportunity for jobs to support their families when they return home. Rep. Doug Broxson (R-Pensacola) is the bill’s Senate sponsor.
“This bill helps veterans in being assisted in certain license and qualifications for the Department of Professional Regulations, Department of Agriculture, consumer services, the Office of Financial regulations and Financial Services and the Department of Education," Broxson says.
The bipartisan caucus says it’s all for pushing efforts to support veterans for life after military service. Rep. Danny Burgess (R-Zephyrhills) says the veterans caucus is going to fight to raise awareness on important issues.
“Our caucus decided to support these bills because they’re still in play during the legislative session." Burgess says, "They support veterans, their families; they serve those who served us and they strongly command bipartisan support members both from the Democratic caucus and Republican Caucus because they help veterans and military families in issues that unite us all.”
